Social Media is a powerful tool. It has created success for a lot of people, it’s a business for many, while others like myself its just an outlet. For me, it is for inspiration and to connect with like-minded individuals. There are many social media platforms that are highly resourceful for businesses and even everyday life. Recently I noticed I was spending a bit more time browsing than I wanted to, so a respite was necessary. ( For my fellow iPhone users, there is a section that collects your screen time usage, you can also set a time limit on how long you spend on each social media platform).
While I had no idea how long I was going to do this for, I spontaneously decided on a Tuesday evening to log out of Instagram. It was easy enough to do but the next morning I found myself tapping on the app to see what’s new. Having to log back in was enough to deter me. I continued to abstain as the days go by. I would get messages from friends to view a post on Instagram but I was determined to stay away. My break lasted 10 days!!! I consider this an extended break.
I have to say 10 days away from social media was glorious! I found myself with so much free time. I got really productive with my extra time.
Here are 5 things to do with your free time:
TACKLE THAT HOME PROJECT THAT YOU HAVE BEEN PUTTING OFF FOR THE LONGEST:
I finally painted our master bathroom and deep cleaned it. This is the biggest task I completed, something that needed to be done for a while and we kept putting it off. This project took 2 attempts to completely paint it. Still waiting on the wallpaper to complete the look. The space is so bright, its looks like a new bathroom. I love it!
READ THAT BOOK THAT YOU HAVE WANTING TO READ:
I read an entire book! Reading is something that I thoroughly enjoy. Our local librarian recommended this book Small Animals after returning my previous read. This book is an eye opener on what parenting has become over the years. We are constantly been judged, by parents and non- parents. Unfortunately we have become discretely competitive in parenting as if it were a sport. We are sanctioned by milestones despite knowing that children develop differently. I won’t review the entire book for you, but I promise you will love it.
LOVE ON YOUR TRIBE:
I spent undivided attention with my tiny humans and husband. It’s freeing when you don’t constantly have notifications going off you can actually be in the moment with your family.
DO MORE HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS:
Show the rest of your space a little love also. I organized the kids room. I’m a minimalist by nature, I don’t like having a lot of things around so this is necessary every few months as toys accumulate.
PLAN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS OUT:
Spring is almost here and Summer is around the corner, vacations are coming up, start looking for the best deals and have the best time yet. This is the best time to plan some road trips with the family.
Have you guys ever taken a break from social media? Tell me how you spent that time.
