How can we be more productive since we are spending so much time at home these days? Time seems to get the best of us, productivity seems to fall low. Between the kids, the mountain of laundry amongst other home chores, finding time to get all these things can be utterly overwhelming. Before you know it, the day is over, and most of the to-do list is incomplete, or better yet, you didn’t get 30 mins for your self.
IDENTIFY WHY YOU WANT A CHANGE
I have noticed that my productivity has been low since the many days at home, there is no longer a schedule for the kids to keep, no classes to attend, no playdates, so the day slides by without us accomplishing much. It has demolished the routine and lets face it, children need routines. I find they thrive in knowing what to expect each day, it makes the day smoother for them and for me.
PRACTICE GRATITUDE DAILY
Each morning when I awake, I acknowledge that the day is a given for me. Many people have not made it to see another day, and that in itself is worth something. I thank God for small mercies; I acknowledge that nothing is possible without his presence.
DEDICATE TIME TO LEARNING AND IMPROVING YOUR CRAFT
Spend at least 1 hour per day learning. Some goals require you to be lifelong student, there is nothing to lose from having more knowledge. Recently I had a conversation with my hair stylist about wealth building. She expressed to me she has been studying and watching videos daily to improve her knowledge of the matter, and this stuck with me. While I usually spend a lot of time reading and researching fundamentals, I loved this approach to study something new. This is something that I have implemented and have already started to see the benefits.
BE KIND TO PEOPLE
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it twice. It does not hurt to be nice. It will not cost you a thing. Should you go out of your way to be nice to people? Sometimes.. We never know exactly what someone else is going through. If someone approaches you to gain your insight on a matter, spare them a few minutes. Reach out to people that matter to you, check in on their day, say hello. Be a good person, there is comfort in knowing that you are being the best version of yourself.
READ A BOOK
Reading will always be my favorite pass time. I started reading at a very young age and have continued to do so into adulthood. There is nothing as freeing as getting the imaging going reading. This week I’m currently reading a personal development book and a fiction.
WATCH LESS TELEVISION
We live in a very media consuming environment, there is always something being thrown at us, and many of us have a fear of missing out. There is absolutely nothing wrong with watching tv. I do it, but I watch with a limit. Moderation is key. There are 2 nights out of the week that are my dedicated tv nights. Other nights I stay away from the screen, I resort to other methods ways to occupy my time. We could be so much more productive when we are not fixed to a screen.
INCORPORATE SOME LEVEL OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY INTO YOUR DAY
Be it exercise, or daily chores, move your body. See, we weren’t designed to sit for hours. Our ancestors had very physical lives, and their life expectancy was decent. Exercise is a good way to control weight, its great for cardiovascular health, great for our joint. It does not have to be a daily mundane task, a simple 20-30 walk per day is ideal. Its a great way to relieve stress and get some endorphins going.
DISTANCE YOURSELF FROM NEGATIVITY IN YOUR LIFE
Be it negative people, negative emotions, or a negative environment. You owe it to yourself to only allow positive energy around you.
DO ONE SMALL THING DAILY
This may simply be to set aside 30 mins for yourself daily. For me, this is getting up a bit before the kids and practice gratitude and read a bit. It sets the tone for the day. If I don’t get some alone time, my mood is off, then I try to compensate for it throughout the day, hence my production is low. My family does not need this, they deserve a well-balanced mother.
